Making Pinecone Christmas Trees

Christmas Pinecones - decorated pineconesBoth immature green pinecones and old dried pinecones make for great mini Christmas trees. They look so cute with cotton as snow and beads and necklaces as ornaments. They make cute little centerpieces. This craft is great for all ages.

Total Time: 30 minutes

Yield: 2 trees

Supplies:

  • 1 dried pinecone
  • 1 green pinecone
  • cardboard tube from toilet paper
  • paint
  • paintbrush
  • scissors
  • glue
  • cotton
  • beads
  • necklaces
Christmas Pinecones - supplies
 

Steps:

  1. Paint cardboard tubes. I used red and green.
  2. Christmas Pinecones - paint cardboard tubes
     
  3. When dry, cut rings about 1/2 to 3/4 inches high. This will be the base for your trees.
  4. Christmas Pinecones - cut off circles for pinecone bases
     
  5. Glue the cardboard ring base to the bottom of your pinecone.
  6. Christmas Pinecones - glue ring to bottom of pinecone
     
  7. Pull apart some cotton to fluff it up then place it around the pinecone.
  8. Christmas Pinecones - glue on fluff

  9. Add little dots of glue to the points of the pinecone. Let the glue get a bit tacky as you work around the cone.
  10. Christmas Pinecones - add dots of glue to tips of pinecone and let set up a bit
     
  11. Press your beads into the dots of glue.
  12. Christmas Pinecones - add beads to tacky glue
     
  13. Affix base to green pinecone.
  14. Christmas Pinecones - glue base to green pinecone
     
  15. Wrap with necklaces. You don't need glue for this.
  16. Christmas Pinecones - decorate with necklaces

These trees are quite easy to make and they would look great on a table or any small place you would like to put them. They also seem to be the right size to go with the miniature villages that are so popular these days.

Pinecones glued to CD to resemble a tree and decorated with red berries.
