I have an old Fifth Third Bank personal money order from 2016. I couldn't cash it then and I having a hell of a time trying to get my money. There is no expiration date on it. How I get my money?
Please help.
Have you checked your state's unclaimed property site? We had a similar situation for a family member and the bank turned over the money to the state. It took some gyrations and paperwork, but she finally got it all back. Having the uncashed check was needed.
Post back with an update on the status!
Is the money order made out to you with no flaws in the name/spelling?
Do you have proper ID with the exact name as on the money order?
I believe you may have to talk to a Fifth Third Bank officer to find out why you are having trouble cashing this item.

I do not believe they can 'keep' this money but since it has been several years they may have several forms etc. that you will have to complete.
If they give you reasons why they cannot give you the money then if you post back with that information, someone may be able to help you find an answer.
Fifth Third Bank is still in business and they have a website that you can use to contact their customer service. Here is the link - www.53.com/
My understanding is; a money order or cashiers check is the same as cash. There should be no expiration date on either. As said above, deal directly with the issuing bank, and don't take no for an answer. I have a restaurant gift card I just used that was given to me 21 years ago, it had no expiration date, I called first and asked, they told me that it was still good! Be assertive and don't let them pull the wool over your eyes by telling you otherwise!! Best of luck! Let us know the turn out!
I have an 6 month old Western Union money order; can I still cash it? And where?
I found a money order from 2011, for my car note. The car is paid off now. Can I take it to my bank and deposit it in my account?
Is the MO any good? There is no expiration on the face. Please help. Was the car note, like a bonus for purchasing the car or some sort? If so, you can bring it to the bank and see if it's eligible to be deposited.
I'd take it to the bank anyway to ask them
Check with the bank. Some money orders do not expire, Western Union does not. Some banks will charge you a fee to cash one after 3 years. If it is written to the car dealership they will probably give you a hard time.If you are the purchaser of the m/o should be okay.
I opened a letter from on my last birthday from a relative that passed several years ago and inside was a money order from Western Union dated in 1999. Is there some way for me to cash it or is it too old?
I found one official check made to myself from St. Paul Bank and a personal money order from Bank One, also made to myself. Both banks have been taken over by other banks. I was told that unclaimed money is sent back to the state. I checked the Illinois treasurer's website and nothing is listed with my name. What can I do? The checks are intact and were issued 18 years ago.
The money order does not expire, but will have a service charge because it is so old. Read the back of it for specifics. The cashiers check is still good.
Is an 85 day old money order too old to cash?
Hi,
You can cash it! After one to three years there may be a service charge deducted from the money order. That information will appear on the back of the money order.
Have a blessed day!
Robyn
Yes, you can still cash the money order. No expiration date.
However per Western Union - depending upon the state of purchase, if you do not use or cash the money order within one to three years of the purchase date, a non-refundable service charge will be deducted from the principal amount.

If this is a USPS money order it is good as long as the person whose name appears on the front is the one trying to cash it and they have proper ID.
Most banks will also cash a USPS money order with proper ID and/or an account or it can also be deposited in a bank account.
I went into the bank last week to cash a money order I had for three years. They said because of the date they would have to send it away. I signed it and showed my license. I called today to find out the status of it and was told it was not my money order that someone else purchased it and reported it lost and cashed it. They will not tell me who it was. I don't get it? They were very rude about it. I called the head office and they're checking into it. Anyone have advice? They even deny I was in the bank to cash it.
By hope1
I hope you kept a copy of it. That is too bad. Good-luck. And please tell us how this ends.
If you didn't get a copy of the money order, you may have a problem proving your case. But if you know where you purchased it, they have to keep a copy and can get it for you. I'd first talk to the Bank Manager. Look at the tellers, and find out the name of the person to whom you gave it. Then, if the Bank Manager is rude to you and does not help you, tell him you are reporting the situation to the Banking Commission. They are headquartered in Washington,D.C. and have control over all banks!
I have helped a friend report a bank in SC who was uncooperative with him. When it was reported to the Banking Commission in D.C., we got results!
I'm so sorry! I'm afraid you need a miracle, due to laws. Not saying there is nothing you can do hopefully bank manager can help. Just last year I had to do research on money orders.
You didn't say if you got the money order or if it was written to you as a gift etc. That would answer many questions. I had to look into money orders eventually to be able to find the truth an attorney helped me. I was astonished at the laws of some states. Some states no matter what if the money order is over 6months old, the money goes to the state. I said "sounds like stealing" however it's true. No exceptions.
Since they didn't say it was no good or too old, you know that someone saw you didn't cash it. Maybe the bank can track it down. However some banks do not know all of the answers either so do your research about the laws. Make sure you see the check, somewhere there is a copy. It is the same as cash. Good luck, please as requested let us know. God bless you!
The bank would have a copy, since you made a deposit...waiting on them to check it out. They have copy of it I'm sure.
Thanks for the advice I found out my younger brother had it re issued to himself he reported it as lost. So I will get my money after all, but no more money orders for me!
