My 4 year old Samoyed was shaved last summer. While the rest of his fur has grown back as normal, a large patch on his back hasn't grown back. He doesn't have any problems with it. He doesn't itch it, nor is it sore. I think this can be a common problem with this breed. Does anyone have any tips of what to give him to help it grow back? We have been recommended Efavet and having researched this it seems that the main ingredients are evening primrose oil and fish oil. I am thinking that if I give him these it may be helpful. What are you thoughts?

It took a long time for my Pit's hair to grow back after being shaved for surgery too. She looked like a poor refugee from a lab or something but it did grow back. It took a few months but it's all back now.
Good diet and exercise are essential to help that along. If it still seems much too slow; you may want to think about getting the dog's thyroid checked.
I have owned several samoyeds and you are not supposed to shave them because their skin sunburns very easily and their hair doesn't quite ever seem the same after shaving. That being said have your vet do a thyroid check as dh8 suggested, the other treatments with evening primrose oil would also be beneficial. The fact that only one patch is not regrowing is a little strange, it could be a sign of a problem. Samoyeds are a hair dog rather than a fur dog which is partly what makes them not react well to shaving.

I have recently taken on a samoyed whose coat had been shaved, tried her on all sorts and finally I have been adding salmon oil to her food the last 6 weeks and all of her hair even her back has fully grown back. It has worked wonders!
My son's girlfriend shaved his 10 year old Chow's hair down to the skin. How can I get it to grow fast?
I put vitamin E on it and give her salmon oil, but doesn't really look like it growing!It will not grow back fast. Dogs usually shed twice a year and then grow in the new coat. It will probably take most of the summer before your Chow looks back to normal.
Here is my Chow, Honey. She gets shaved nearly every year, to keep mats and skin conditions from forming. The shaved picture is from last May and the full coat one is from the previous March. She is sort of in between the two coats right now, having been shaved this March. We do it at home but the groomer has also sent her home this way. There is a common grooming technique called the "lion cut", which only leaves the mane and tail long, shaving the rest of the body.
After a full year my American Eskimo's hair still has not grown back on the bottom of his tail. It was trimmed to a length of about 4"; my groomer said for cleanliness.
Please I need advise.
Normally you never give an American Eskimo or Husky a hair cut. You should only brush the hair on the dog to get off the undercoat that sheds during the summer months. Your dog might never grow the hair back on the tail or where your groomer cuts it off. I'd really consider changing your groomer if this is the case for your dog. I'm so sorry to hear this and it shouldn't of happened.
I know it's not good to shave a Samoyed, but we had to because of his hot spots. I want to know how long does it take for his hair to grow back?
