Making Paper Coasters

May 28, 2007

White Round Paper CoastersI have some hockey cards that I would like to "stick" onto cork coasters. Any suggestions on how to do this?

They need to be water proof. Any other suggestions for using hockey cards in a craft for a sports bar?

Yes!! I seen this on trading spaces! Cut your cork board a little bit bigger than the card, glue card on cork and seal it with waterproof sealer and wahlaa! So simple!!!

If you don't have to use cork you can go to the craft store and buy a plastic coaster kit that you insert your picture or cards into.

Laminate the cards before gluing to cork, this will waterproof the cards.

You could laminate the cards and then, using Gorilla Glue or perhaps some type of waterproof glue, adhere the laminated cards to the cork which you have cut to size. :-)

I want to make coasters for the holidays. I was going to buy tiles at the local hardware store, but the smallest option (in a decent price range) is way too big for a coaster. While at the local craft store I found paper/cardboard coasters that will work, but I'm wondering how to completely waterproof them (heat proof would be nice too). Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

Even regular paper-based coasters are not completely water-proof. Rather, they absorb the water sweating from the glasses.

You need to polyurethane them. Paint it on and let it dry. Sand lightly, then repeat this step at least 3 times.

They will come out really smooth, like glass, it is the same way you would do a piece of wood.
