Party Games for Adults

September 29, 2006

This is one of the most hilarious games I've ever played at a party:

This is best for a larger group because the object is to see how many different ways a person can get from point A to point B and NOT repeat any previous method.

Example: Player no. 1 from a surrounding onlooking line might begin the game by running. Player no. 2 would likely walk. No. 3 might skip, No. 4 might hop.

Watching is so much fun, participating is so crazy feeling feeling, partly embarrassing/partly addictive and comical hearing the audience roar but not really knowing until someone shows a video/DVD of it later on for a fresh "Perspective".

Believe it or not, only a couple of folks duplicated a method, which astounds the audience to see how many ways there are to accomplish this game. (It's o.k. to let someone "slide" if they "accidentally" repeat another person's method, because they might have been coughing, laughing, taking a potty break, or eating and didn't see the one they copied...or, could not think, for whatever reason, of a new way that had not been done before. The C R A Z Y feeling comes from the surprise that over 100 can be done, and that it shows "human" ingenuity (and takes some humility) at it's best, thanks to the Creator of Heaven and Earth who gave each of us a brain to use! LOL

My friend Christopher is wheelchair bound. He has limited mobility and speech and uses a diaper for his restroom needs. My friend Morgan has mild cerebral palsy and she can't read, write, or count at all, but she can use the toilet. She can talk and walk without help. She also can dress and undress herself without help. My friend Marc also has cerebral palsy.

He uses awheelchair for mobility. He can talk and walk with assistance from a walker and braces. He can use the toilet. He can feed himself. He can read, write, and count. And I was born with spina bifida. What kind of games can I pick for everyone to play that are easy and fun to play?

I work with a patient that is wheelchair-bound. He works with other disabled adults of varying levels of mobility in an office. At one office party, they went bowling! The bowling alley was set up especially for them, even though it normally catered to able-bodied people. Check with your local bowling alley, maybe they can do this also.

We had 17 people in my living room last night for a Thanksgiving get together. All of them adults and one 12 year and a 15 year old. So, we need some fun games for a crowded room for 17. We loved Pictionary. I had a large size dry marker board, and dry markers we used, and we laughed and laughed. We had two teams, guys against the ladies of course. We also played charades with the same teams, and liked that even better. we had a circle of people in kitchen chairs with teams on each side of the room. And if you've never played "Is Ms.Mumble Home?" with a group of adults, that is a lot of fun too.

we all sit in a circle. Then without no one showing their teeth, they ask their neighbor "Is Ms.Mumble home?", and then the neighbor says, "I don't know, let me ask my neighbor". No one can show their teeth, if they do they are out, and this links from one to the other. until everyone is out. You can do funny faces and make goofy sounds to try to make your neighbor laugh and show his teeth. it is fun. We all like it, and play it every year .

Cranium is a fun game for a large group of diverse people because it combines pictionary, name that tune, trivia, etc. all into one. It's always a hit at my parties, plus it's a team game.

If you're not wanting to buy a game and you want to get to know each other a little better, write questions on slips of paper and put them in the hat. They don't have to be really personal. I have a book that was made in the 1980s called "The Book of Questions." You can get it on Amazon and it's got plenty of examples, some deep others not, but it always starts a conversation.

I'm having a 30th surprise party for my husband. It's going to be at the Fox and Hound, where I have reserved 2 of the pool tables. I'm inviting 25-35 people, my question is what can we do while there besides drink and play pool? I'd like to have some games to do to get everyone involved but I have searched on the net and only find horribly silly games or things that are not appropriate. Any ideas?

Ok, I have a couple of ideas, but they are not for everyone...
one is a scavenger hunt; depending on how well people know each other you can have them search for 'a person who's middle name is helena' or 'who was born in Illinois', or make it more general like "spot someone wearing a red shirt' (which might not happen) or 'who was born in the month of January'... have like 25 of these and announce that people will have 2 hours to mingle and then whoever gets the most answers gets a prize (which, while you're there, could be a pitcher of beer ;)

this gets people out of their 'couple' and mingling quite well. You would just have to sit around with a couple of close invitee friends to come up with a list and then make one copy for each person. You could even have "what color is the 2 ball" in case there are some people not interested in pool that would bring them to the table!
Another is to bring 3x5 index cards and tape to put a card on each person's back: each card will have the name of a famous person (like marilyn monroe, or abraham lincoln) and who ever guesses who they are (by asking other people questions about themselves, like, "am I male or female" "was I a good person or a bad person?" "was I in politics or show business?") gets a prize... the prizes can be whatever fits in with your crowd--you might find some good stuff at a dollar store, like votive candles or something. I guess buying everyone a beer might get costly--but if you were planning on it anyway, this way makes it more of a 'prize' :)

have fun!

I write a blog detailing archaic and bizarre party games, many from my youth, but many suitable for adults

Looking for games with a Pink theme that we can play at an adult party (dinner). Clean ideas only, please! I have thought of "pin the pink ribbon on the piggy".

You can consider the theme "In the Pink of Health" or "Pink Panther" or "Strawberry shortcake" etc. Get all your friends to wear pink (guys included!). Get them to play sporty games (in line with the theme) or have a game to prepare a creative "Pink" snack like doughnut dipped in melted pink cream or baked mini cupcakes with colorful M&Ms or pink fondant or butter cream .

Food wise you can prepare pink or red color food like strawberries dipped half in melted chocolate, pink milk shakes or cola drinks, pink color cakes or cupcakes. Decor wise - you can use different shades of pink and cream or white from the table cloth or the games area.

Get party guests to come with red or pink color food and drinks like red wine, fingerfood with pink decorations like dried pink orchids or rose petals etc.

Pink also represents romance so put on some romantic music or smooth jazz.

To end the party with pink favor bags for everyone to bring home - some pink items to remember the party by.
