Hello! I am so anti boredom! I hate it because I feel like I'm wasting my time when I'm bored. I spin yarn, which is soooo interesting and fun, as well as knit, sew dolls and all kinds of things!

Go to swapbot.com and look around. It takes a minute to figure out what's going on, but is great fun and a good challenge when you get going! Also, ravelry.com if you know how or would like to learn to knit and crochet! Huge community of fiber artists there! Hope that helps! Betsy

I don't have time to get bored, I always keep busy and find something to do. My husband and I are very active in our church. I try and exercise 3 or more times per week by walking on the treadmill. We are very active with Vietnam Veterans of America and I make and donate hand-crafted items every year for their annual scholarship spaghetti dinner. I'll be starting on next years projects very soon.

I've crocheted six six lap afghans and have donated them to a V.A. Hospital. My husband and I borrow DVD movies from our public library and we watch them at night on our computer. We're also active members of a senior citizen group. I'm busier now being retired, then when I was in the working world.

I do lot of research online & watch the Dr's shows ,the ones you can ask question online & learn something about how to eat right & etc,I never watch soaps, just want to learn all I can about how to stay healthy & not gain wt & to keep our sugar down with out meds. You can also go visit the sick in hospitals & nursing homes. Just ask at the front desk who needs visitors. They'll be very proud to see anybody, good luck.

I pick up litter while out walking. I walk the road in my community about once a week and this keeps it looking nice. With my reach extender, I can grab a cigarette butt and put it in the bag and not even break my stride. To me, that's fun! Picking up litter is good exercise and much easier than housework.

I have some other great places to walk and I do try to walk most every day. Walking makes me feel good. When I don't walk, I feel sluggish.

Getting outside gives me a boost. Keeping my community clean gives me pride and the personal satisfaction is rewarding. I very seldom get lonely, bored or depressed.

If you want to make a difference and keep your neighborhood litter free and you don't want to do it alone, grab a friend and clean up a spot and keep it clean. It will not take long for you to feel ownership and be obsessed with picking up litter.

Hi, Mary. I'm in Oklahoma, too. :-) It sounds like you don't have any problems getting out and about, so I'd suggest finding ways to volunteer in your community. I volunteer at my daughter's school several times a week. Even if her teacher is all caught up, the library always has books that need to be shelved. There are other places that would love to have some help, any day of the week.

I'm hoping we're all finished with snow for the season. It's time to get back into the yard and start battling those weeds! I take a radio out with me and try to find a talk show to listen to. If I don't like any of the talk shows, I can listen to my MP3 player. My mom loves her MP3 player, too. I put a bunch of audio books onto hers, so she can work and listen at the same time.

I hope you find something that occupies your time. Best of luck!

I don't mean to sound like a Dr. Phil want-a-be but are you sure you are bored? That probably sounds stupid, but I find myself thinking I am bored when in reality I am anxious about something. With me I have too many things started most of the time or one particular thing is bothering me and as soon as I get it handled the bored feeling is gone. Like I said I don't mean to be practicing doctoring I am just sharing what I feel at times. Maybe this will help somebody even if it doesn't pertain to you.

Awhile back, I discovered if I was feeling bored, it was a nudge to pray for someone. I also try to do things for others like send cards or phone someone who's lonely.

I also try to get into my hobbies more, and have found that by doing this, I seem to be fulfilling what I'm "supposed" to be doing.

Find local charities in your area; animal shelters, nursing homes, Meals on Wheels, homeless shelters, etc. and volunteer! You'll meet lots of new people and be doing a good deed at the same time!

I never have that problem! I can't relate at all! Don't mean to sound critical, but huh? There's always things to do, learn, read try new things. The boredom relief is only going to come from you, no one else can tell you what to do so you won't be bored!

You have to be motivated and interested in something. Maybe you are anxious like the other poster said.
I am never bored! Maybe I am easily entertained though! LOL! Good luck!

To be honest sometimes or a lot of times when people are bored they are depressed. They don't think there is anything wrong with them and they make excuses on other things. They really don't get down to themselves and really see what the problem is.

Now if that's not your category and you are still bored. Then you must be a busy body like someone I know whom can't sit down or she'll fall asleep. You just need to see a doctor I think and explain what is going on. You need to enjoy your relaxation periods and maybe you have something else going on. Anxiety, etc.

Third, go to yahoo.com and type in what to do when your bored, and I'm sure you'll find many things that will help you. :)

We go geocaching. Gets the family out of the house. We find new and interesting places. We usually end up going some place that we can do some hiking (short stuff...kids are still young). And sometimes we find some really cool geocaches.

Geocaching is basically a treasure hunt with a gps unit. More info.... geocaching.com

I also took up the hobby of making my own soap which has turned into eliminating most cleaning products.

If you have a lot of free time and nothing to do, why not volunteer? Be a grade-school child's reading buddy. Offer to walk your elderly or disabled neighbor's dog(s,) or help around their house or yard. Be a Big Brother/Big Sister to an older child. Help out at the local soup kitchen or food pantry. If you're not afraid to get your hands dirty, clean up your neighborhood's streets. There's always trash that needs picked up, everywhere, unfortunately.

Betcha if you went to your favorite search engine (or even yellowbook.com) and typed "volunteer" and your city and state, you'd find loads of ways you can give of your time. It'll help you not be bored, and it'll help others at the same time.

What do I do now that I am retired and bored?

Well I am 76 and have found plenty to do. Here are some of the things I do.
1. Do some traveling. Some to other states others for day trips to places I have never visited when working. There are always bus tours where you will meet new people.
2. Volunteer at your local hospital or other worthy group.
3. Go to school. There are plenty of courses available through your local town, state and local school. These don't have to be degree rewarding.
4. Join a health club. My health club meets for breakfast every Friday. Good way to meet people in your age bracket.
Start a vegetable or plant garden.
5.Catch up on chores around the house that you didn't have time for when working.
6. Learn a hobby. Dancing or some other interest you would like to do.
7. Ask other retirees what they do.
8. Stay active with groups of people.
9. But do something.

You could also join a senior center. The one where I live has lots of various activities, computer classes, knitting classes, a gym, card clubs, reading clubs, dances, different exercise classes such as line dancing, tai chi, craft club, etc.

As a single mother and working full time I had little time to read. Now that I am retired, my best friend is the public library. I go thorugh about 6 books a week. A library card is free all you have to do is go in and sign up and you get a card. They have books on tape, a treasure trove of different subjects and also you can check out magazines. They also offer many free activities and sometimes show movies. You can also get dvd's, movies, and cd's to copy if you like. All free. Hope this helps.

Open your local newspaper and see who needs some volunteers. If no one is asking, just call some organizations and see if they would love to have you volunteer. I did that and finally chose just a few organizations.
I also got involved in coupons, am still saving a lot of money. With all the food I can purchase either free or almost free, I donate it to a local food pantry run by a friend. We meet each Monday and I give her the food. She makes me dinner and we spend some nice times together. We've been friends 35 yrs.
I also donate free kitty food to the local animal shelter along with my newspapers. They use them to line the kitty and puppy cages. In return, they let me look through the papers others donate and I get coupons from those Sunday papers.
Once a week, I hold a coupon club where I share the coupons I've been given, tell where the best sales are that week, ask others for their view of best sales, and teach men and women how to use coupons to their best advantage. My Dr. says many people retire and their brains become mush, but not me as I have to learn the new prices in the grocery store each week when they change.
Twenty-one years ago, I had to take a medical retirement which I felt was much too early for me, but now I love being retired.

I 'm a volunteer at a local school, have an allotment, cycle, read, and I'm starting a latin course at the OU in October. Bored? I don't have the time. Having said that, you have to look for things, they won't come to you. I was scared stiff the first time I went into school but it's so worth it. Please do it now. Do everything you never had time for when you worked. Best of luck.

Start the day by walking the road or street in your community. Take along a plastic shopping bag and pick up any litter you see. The exercise will keep you healthy and give you energy. Keeping the litter picked up will give your self esteem a boost and the neighbors will appreciate it also.
