House Training a Puppy

House Training a Puppy, Photo of a labrador retriever puppy.I have been training another new pup we just recently adopted. He has been having a few accidents on my beds. So I went to a furniture store where they sell mattresses and they gladly gave me the plastic off some of the beds.

I wrapped all our mattresses in the plastic and used packing tape to secure them on the bottom. So at least when he is finally trained I will have my mattresses. Thank God I do not have carpets! This saved me a lot of money; rubber sheets are expensive.

I had two 8 weeks old puppies to house train at the same time. I took them outside when they woke up, after they played, after they ate, and before they went to bed.

House training a puppy is a necessary and sometimes trying part of pet ownership. The successful completion of this training is well worth the time invested. This is a page about house training a Yorkie puppy.

Yorkshire Terrier Puppy

I have an 8 month old Chihuahua who's been mostly good about going on the pad. I live in an apartment, so she does all her business there when I can't take her out. About two weeks ago she began her first bleed. Nothing seemed to change during the bleed; however, now that the bleeding has stopped she's going a little nuts.

I have a teddy that I sleep with (that a few months ago I began putting in the laundry hamper when I got up, otherwise the poor thing was brutally ravaged several times a day). She's never humped him when I'm right there (she knows I don't like it), but last night she was trying to have a go at him even while I was wrapped around him. I also caught her balling up my sweater to hump yesterday afternoon, which I'm pretty sure is new. I understand the hormone thing, and she will be spayed soon, but I wanted to wait until after her first heat so her hormones would even out.

As for the pee-pad, she's made three messes in the living room and hallway, and peed twice (that I've found - I have laminate) in the living room, and hasn't touched her pad at all today. Of course, she tends to wait until I'm not paying attention to do her business so I can never catch her in the act.

I'm just wondering if this is normal, and/or if there's anything I can do to get her back on the pad. I'm beginning to run out of Nature's Miracle.

House training a puppy requires a lot of time, consistency, and a firm gentle approach. Just as you would not expect a toddler to be potty trained in a day, puppies are babies, they need your guidance to learn the expectations of house training.

I have a 10 month old Cockapoo who was completely potty trained, I could take him anywhere and never worry about him going potty where he shouldn't. 3 weeks ago I went on a 2 day anniversary getaway and he went poo and pee all over an area in our living/dining room. He has a dog door. I assumed he was nervous that we were gone. But he continued to go, so I cleaned it with potty cleaner then shampooed the carpets and covered them with boxes.

He was doing better for a few days, but he's found a new area. He doesn't even sniff just runs over and pees! I get mad and he knows he's in trouble. I don't know what to do anymore. I've tried everything it seems, cleaners, shampoo, citrus, baking soda, etc.

My son got his daughter an adorable Poodle pup who is now about 8 months old. They've not been able to potty train her! Now Mama wants to get rid of the puppy because she just "goes" where ever she wants to. I'm taking her to see if I can do any better! I actually want to paper train her as she's very tiny, about 5 lbs, and it will help when the weather is bad, etc. If I can get her paper trained, my granddaughter will be allowed to have her again. Ideas?

I have a 9 week old Lhasa Apso cross who we have had for the last 10 days. In the beginning everything was great she used the paper, but now she wants to do the toilet everywhere apart from the paper. She still can't go out until her next jag. I don't know what to do. Any help is welcome.

We have a 9 month old Shepoo that we are having great difficulty in house training. He may pee or poop outside, but will do his business inside upon coming back into the house.

Puppy under a blanket. We have a 5 month old Chihuahua, that we thought we had house trained. We also have a cat so therefore have a cat flap which the dog has been trained to use and was doing brilliantly with hardly any accidents.

Since we have had a lot of rain he will not go outside unless he is forced or if we go out with him, instead he will go inside the kitchen where we keep him. He will also sometimes go in the kitchen after we have been out with him. He has also started peeing on his bedding and I'm having to wash it every couple of days. We have now noticed that even if it is dry out he will sometimes pee or poo inside!

This is very frustrating as he always has access to outside anytime of day. He knows when he has done wrong because when he has gone to the toilet inside, as soon as you walk into the kitchen he will go straight to his bed rather than come and greet you.

I'm not sure what to do as I was thinking of putting puppy pads down when the weather is bad, but I'm scared that he will get confused and think he has to pee indoors all the time. What is the best approach to this as we are finding it very stressful.

I have a 3 month old Pit/Lab mixed puppy. I am kind of new to the puppy or animal owning. So the last dog I had I failed miserably on house training and potty training my puppy. I am looking for some good quick advice or help on how to potty train?

I started fostering a 10 month old Labrador Retriever. He is very sweet, but has a very short attention span and never stops pacing. We are crate-training him and he has never had an accident in the crate.

Now, the issue we are having is that it is very difficult to get him to do his business outside. We have tried many different strategies, walking him on a leash to the same spot, praising him when go does go, walking him around the neighborhood; nothing is working. He rarely goes outside and of course, has had accidents in the house. When he is outside, he is more interested in his surroundings than doing his business. Please help, since we need to train him so he can find his forever home.
