I have been training another new pup we just recently adopted. He has been having a few accidents on my beds. So I went to a furniture store where they sell mattresses and they gladly gave me the plastic off some of the beds.
I wrapped all our mattresses in the plastic and used packing tape to secure them on the bottom. So at least when he is finally trained I will have my mattresses. Thank God I do not have carpets! This saved me a lot of money; rubber sheets are expensive.

Convincing Your Dog to Potty in One Place. Adapted From: Dog Tricks For Dummies. Having a dog that eliminates in a designated place is a real advantage. Thank you to Racer for recommending this link.
When we first got our dog (10 month old rescue Pomeranian), we got just so far in housebreaking her and couldn't get any further. We could tell that she wasn't getting the message clearly on what we wanted and we were sort of at a loss on how to let her know that she'd done something wrong without yelling or (god forbid) hitting her.
My tip is on training. No matter how young you get your pup, start taking her/him out every hour on the hour. I did crate training.
If you get a puppy, keep it in an old baby playpen with newspapers layered over an old shower curtain or other waterproof mat. Then the puppy can stay in the room with you without causing "accidents" on the carpet.
Our Lakeland Terrier is 15 months old and we are having a difficult time getting him to hold his bodily functions until he gets outside. He will not usually poop or pee in the house when we are with him, but if we leave him alone or if he wakes up in the morning before we do, he will do his business as he pleases.
Will he do his business in the house, if he is tied on? Our cocker spaniel will not IF she is tied on, but if we are not home and forgot to tie her up we can expect a present to clean up when we get home. Overnight she will go 14 hours before she asks to get off the leash and wants to go outside to do her business and...she is 14 years old. She even sleeps in like my teenagers want to.
We just attach the leash to a table leg in the kitchen and have her food and water within reach. We do not put her in a kennel in the house.
I have a mini pincher/chihuahua mix who is just 8 weeks old, my question is how to we teach him to be friendly and not atack everyone in sight, people, ect. He isn't doing any of this YET, but his daddy does.
I have a German Shepherd female pup that, as of today, is 3 months old. I have a few questions. She has learned some things pretty fast, but doesn't always listen or do as she is supposed to. She will sit when told and go into crate when told, and responds to, "do you want a treat" and "are you hungry, want to eat?".
When house breaking your dog, remember it needs to go out before and after everything, before a nap, after a nap, before eating, after eating, before playtime, after playtime.
When house training your dog, take it to the same place, every time you take him/her outside to do it's business. Tell your dog "hurry up" or "potty" as your dog does his business.
Have a new 8 week old male Shih Tzu and have to train with everything. Potty and chewing main problems. I have about every chew toy available but he seems to get bored and then chews my pant legs, or whatever he shouldn't!
I am saying NO constantly and thinking about changing his name from Bailey to NO. Any ideas will be appreciated. When we get a puppy we start out with lots of love and affection. We get a nice size box and put a clock that ticks (sounds like a heart), a cuddly blanket and a hot water bottle which we place under the blanket.
We had a 14 week old 'Bug' Pug/Boston Terrier mix and then I was able to buy favorite dog in the whole world a English Bulldog. The only problem is that my Bug was not potty trained yet so they both are peeing and pooping on the new hardwood we just put down! HELP! How do we do this?
My Min Pin, Rocky, is 2 1/2 years old. I got him when he was one, and the lady that had him first never trained him. No matter how often or for how long we walk him, he still insists on doing his business in the house, usually on a rug. I'm at my wits end! Also, he insists on barking at everything and everyone. Even if it's me coming in the door. Any help would be SO greatly appreciated!
