You can have a historical theme. Decorations from the World Wars, Vietnam War, Korean War, etc. Each table could be dedicated to a different war.

The 75th anniversary of D Day is this year (2019). Why not have a 1944's theme (40s) with cars from that era if anyone in your town has them. Play swing music, how old news reel clips on a big screen in the background. Add some neat art deco servicing pieces and 40s food favs like corn dogs (newly invented back then), banana fritters, and fruit cake.

Best wishes on your event!! Have fun with it!

I am in the new battalion S1 NCO at an Army JROTC school in Murfreesboro, TN. Our military ball is in the winter. What should I do for the theme?

A winter wonderland theme would be fun and appropriate for the time of year.

that sounds really fun and exciting.

some ideas are

- does your school have a mascot of some type? Could it be a theme around that? IE a common mascot could be The Patriots, so you could have a historical/George Washington era theme or an American flag theme

- is your town particularly proud of a historical moment, maybe a decisive Civil War battle? The theme could revolve around that battle. It looks like Stones River National Battlefield is a big deal in your area, the theme could revolve around that
- does your town have a specific plant, flower, or animal theme? This link could provide ideas www.tennesseenaturescapes.com/
- you could always open it up for discussion, have 8 or 10 people provide different ideas and y'all vote for the best one
- you could just pick your school's colours and go with that as a theme

Movie themes are always nice for a dance. Pinterest has many ideas you could borrow from to get you started. See this link:www.pinterest.com/.../

There are movies that already have Dante in the title, like Dante's Peak and Dante's Inferno...

WARNING AND TALK TO AN ADULT--be sure not to violate any copyrights...but you may be able to show these movies at the event AFTER YOU check with an adult to make sure they are appropriate--I have never seen either....so I have no idea of this is appropriate--just ideas for what you can do if appropriate)

Good luck with your theme!

I have volunteered to help plan the military ball for my husband's Army unit. The ball is going to be in October, so I was wondering what people have done for October balls. What would be a good theme for that time of year? I want to bring some really good ideas to our first meeting in a few days.

Are you the one in charge of ideas? I would think this should be discussed in the group. I have found from previous experience, no matter how good I thought my ideas were nobody else in the group felt the same way. I have seen pictures that my now "ex" took at Marine Corp balls, when he was young and single and there weren't decorations, other than ones related to the Marine Corp.

However, fall leaves, combined with pumpkins will always work for that time of the year, then add a few candles. I don't know what great ideas there are, if you want it to be tasteful. Otherwise there are all kinds of "cutesy" decorations available. I am assuming you want the ball to be tasteful.

Do a little research on important Army related events for that time of year. October just screams Halloween, but personally, I think something else would be more appropriate for a military ball. Oct means eight if that is any help. What does this unit do? Could that be used as a starting point for a theme for the ball? Could it celebrate unit's achievements, present and past? Hope this helps.

At Cloeelizabeth, thanks! that's actually a very smart thing to do.

At redhatterb, we have our very first meeting in a few days, and I believe that's when all volunteers are appointed to something. We were just told to be ready to make decisions and I wanted to bring up some really good ideas since I'm really in to the whole decorating thing & the pumpkin thing is cool and yes, I would rather have a tasteful ball.

It just seems right because it is the Military ball!

You could do a moonlight theme. OR, you could do 'Through the Years" See if the wives or husbands can provide a picture from basic training & possibly a few more from the service time of the soldiers. Make several collages to be placed around the room. Tables can be decorated with flags from different countries where various servicemen & women have served. You could even use momentos from different bases. Name the tables after generals, or even better, name the tables after different wars. The Civil War table could have decorations from the 1800's (model canons, etc.), WW1 & WW2 tables could have model airplanes or ships from that time. Have a tribute corner for fallen soldiers.

I am with the Bryant, Arkansas AFJROTC and we are having a military ball in April. We don't really have a theme or anything of that sort. I didn't know a military ball did that kind of thing. I am in charge of the decorations and all that stuff. We are also trying to think of a trinket type thing to give out to the dignitaries and cadets. Can you please help me?

Why not make it historical? Pick a year, say 1812, and the guests are invited to dress in the period costume. Since formal events haven't changed that much, you wouldn't need much in the way of different decoration. Maybe hang up a picture of James Madison, and get people to debate whether they would vote for Madison or DeWitt Clinton.

Get people to get into the "year".

For trinkets... small American flag lapel pins? I'm pretty sure those would work for both guys and gals.

Here's something I've done for ladies' banquets at church, but I think would work well for your occassion too.

Use 1 foot square mirror tiles on the tables. Place a bud vase off-center with flowers (silk or real) in it. Place pretty high heels 1 on each side facing different directions. Drape cheap pearl or beaded necklaces over the high heels.

Another thing I use a lot of is bridal tulle. I wad it up and twist it, run it down the center of a long table or pile it up in the center of a round table. You can place all kinds of things in the puffiness of the tulle. Be careful with candles though.

Candles give a romantic feel.Tiny twinkling Christmas lights are beautiful as long as you have a place to plug them in, and the cords are out of the way. They are also pretty wound through artificial trees. I've used the Christmas lights under tulle on a long buffet table. Ivy is useful for twining around.

Greeting, I'm cadet Lt Bannister at an AFJROTC unit where I currently reside as the Vice Corps Commander. As an oversight to Military Ball I can tell you that choosing a theme is challenging. I've watched my unit brainstorm for 2 months with a different theme each week. However my advice to you all is to get out of the "Military" idea. Show your unit that you are capable of creating new and different ideas. Its a military ball, they expect you to make it about the military, but spice it up and surprise them. You can look at prom themes to set up your unit's ball. Be creative and think outside the box.

Good luck and remember to dance the night away!

I am in charge of planning my AFJROTC military balance my committee and I can settle on a theme. It's at the end of February and it has to relate to the Air Force or JROTC or something of that nature in a way.

Any ideas?

How about Fly into spring? People will be really tired of dreary weather. You can focus on events that happened in the spring at any time in Air Force history

So I'm one of the head cadets working on the military ball projects and I can't find a venue in Chattanooga that's close to the school. Plus I can't find underwater themes, velvet ropes, and like a huge sailboat prop for pictures.

So if anyone knows anything to help me please help because I need it ASAP before April.

Since this is a military ball, you'll probably want some of military unit insignia displayed i.e. unit flag/guidon, school flag, American flag, branch of service flag. Use the appropriate colors for flowers and other decorations.
