Christmas Parade Float Ideas

October 14, 2010

Trucks decorated for a Christmas paradeI am a police sergeant in West Virginia and run a youth group of about 30 high school kids who want to go into law enforcement. We are going to march in the Christmas parade this year and for the first time they are allowing floats. We have decided to try to build the float, however I don't have the first clue as to what I'm doing. My first thought is to try to get some ideas of what to have on the float. The actual theme is "Christmas In The City", but I would like to incorporate the police department into the theme as well.

I would use a trailer then at the tongue part that you pull , make it look like a police station only cover it with white snow and white lights you can buy foam boards at Lowes and have someone paint your scene on them they are light weight .the police station always gives to toys for tots incorporate this in your float ! Don't forget to add your Station name and Logo .

Well, I would go with a cute scene of a tree with gifts under it and have special lighting hooked up to it so it glows.

Get a lamp post or make one from cardboard, etc. whatever is handy and hang a Christmas wreath upon it. Create a makeshift light and have the group dress in long coats, shawls, mittens and boots and the guys in tophats like the early 1800s and sing Christmas carols.

Put a tablecloth on table with enough chairs for the group, a layout of dishes, teacups, teapot or coffeepot on the table and nonperishable foods and have the group sitting around the table praying over their meal.

Using the same idea, alter it with a father figure reading from the Holy Bible while family members gather around him sitting in his easy chair near the fireplace and Mom is in her rocker doing handwork or mending. Use a big braided rug and have some sitting on it near the fireplace. A child could be cradling a rag doll in lap and a boy petting a cat. Get an artificial stuffy if a real one is not feasible while listening intently.

Do a takeoff on the song "I saw mommy kissing Santa Claus'. Tree with presents, could have a couch and or chair, Santa and mommy, the rest you can figure out.

Pilgrims and Indians would be so fun!

You could use things like hay, corn, turkeys, pumpkins, little pilgrim costumes and Indian costumes.

To this end I have included some virtual field trips to get a flavor of some of the characteristic of Thanksgiving that could be included in your float.

You could ask the kids what they will be most thankful for this year, and have them make and hold a poster of what they tell you. Maybe the float could be dressed like an old fashioned dining room at Gran's house and the children could be sitting around the table.

Something else I'm seeing this year are Thanksgiving trees and I think it's a great way to remember what Thanksgiving is all about. The kids could wear a leaf shaped poster with their 'most thankful' written on it, and there could be a tree with construction paper leaves wired on, written with their most thankfuls.

I need ideas for a Christmas parade float. The theme is: Christmas Around the World. I want to highlight different religions and cultures and how they celebrate Christmas (possibly inexpensively). The parade is in 5 days. Thanks.

Last year, my boss asked if I could help her with her children's church choir parade entry. The theme was "What Christmas Means To Me". Simple theme, but one that has so many options.

How about a locksmith unlocking a door for Santa Claus and a sign that says something like, "If you don't have a fireplace, don't forget to unlock the door!" Sorry. Got a terrible cold, this is the best I can come up with now. Hope you have fun at your parade!

...or unlocking the door to the toy room at the North Pole. "Even the elves lose their keys"
How about "Unlock the (spirit, joy, thrills) of Christmas" or "Family is the 'Key' to a Happy Christmas" (particularly good if it's a family owned business).

Remember to be funny to be remembered.
Have fun!

That is a tough one, how about a big pad lock made out of card board with a big red bow and a key made out of card board sprinkled in glitter and a sign that Reads "Unlock Your Heart for Jesus, He is The Reason for the Season".
