This is what I figured out when I got tired of spending over $1.00 for one package of ranch dressing mix. I think that I got pretty close, but the measurements are a guesstimation. You can change the amounts of herbs, or add some, like dill, fresh ground black pepper or pepper flakes, whatever, according to your tastes.

Just consider this to be a base recipe...

1/4/ teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teasooon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon celery salt
1/2 tablespoon dehydrated parsley
dash paprika
a little bit of salt

Mix well. Stir into 1 cup mayonnaise and 1 cup buttermilk, plain yogurt or sour cream, as you prefer.

I posted this recipe previously on this site. This came out of a secret recipes cookbook. I don't buy the commercial mix anymore, I even like this one better! 1/2 t. dried parsley flakes, 1/4 t. ground black pepper, 1/4 t. msg (optional), 1/4 t. salt, 1/8 t. garlic powder, 1/8 t. onion powder, pinch dried thyme. Mix dried ingredients together. Add 1/2 cup mayonnaise & 1/2 cup buttermilk. Refrigerate. Tastes better the longer it sets.

Hi,

I researched this a long time ago, I saw clones that called for powdered saltine crackers (in blender or food processor). This would thicken it up some and not need to be cooked as raw flour would.

As with other recipes I would make a version and tweek it to my own taste.

Good luck

This is a good site for finding recipes for various mixes:
http://www.cdkitchen.com
This is what I found searching for ranch:
www.cdkitchen.com/.../search.php?c=&order=1&site=kitchenmixes...
There are a couple recipes in the list for 'mixes' that you can store and then add the wet ingredients when you need the dressing.

This is a dry mix that you store in an airtight container. It is much better than the ones you can buy at the store.
