I got these same dark patches on my face as soon as I started menopause. Mine get worse when I go into the sun so I always use sunscreen. Go to any Walgreens or any quality drug store & talk to the salesperson in the cosmetics area. There are many products that can lighten these spots. My daughter reads fashion magazines & has given me articles from them on diminishing these spots. I'll get back to you with the exact products. Creams containing hydroquinone are bleaching creams, hydroquinone has been used for this purpose for many years. One thing you can do is go into the area where they sell the "Ethnic" products that are mostly for African Americans & buy some of the "lightening cream" & put this only on the area where your spots are.

Here's another less expensive treatment "Retin-A" & vitamins:

Sunscreen, yes! Once your spots lighten up, keep up the sun protection to keep them gone for good. Sunglasses and a 5" wide hat brim + suncreen have kept my 53 year old face nearly spot free.

I went to a plastic surgeon and had a laser peel. I am glad I did.

It's not that expensive to have a little laser work done, just on the spots and not the whole face.

I use to sail a lot & have brown spots too. I use scrubbing grains everyday (like salt/sugar scrubs).I use it on my neck too. It took a long time, but eventually the brown spots & some wrinkles are leaving. My neck had gotten saggy & it has helped that too.

I also use a handheld device with a brush on it that is battery powered. I add the scrub grains to it. It took 3-4 months before I noticed a change, but it is worth it. Good luck!

The cheapest way to get rid of brown spots on your skin is to rub caster oil on them. I don't know why it works, but it does.

I saw on a tv show where the hosts are all doctors that dabbing the spots with vinegar helps fade the spots.

Have you tried using a basic foundation to cover up the spots? I know that my grandmother was dealing with the same problem on her face, especially the cheeks, and found a basic skin colored foundation to be the perfect solution. Try that and let me know how it goes. Good luck.

I've been asked to use Retinol A to lighten some dark spots on my skin. Can anyone or does anyone know if it's like a skin bleaching cream?

And when or if I use the cream if my skin gets light will it stay permanent?

It will lighten the spots as long as you use it. It is irritating, however, and should be used under a doctor's supervision.

I do not know who asked you to use this but I would recommend that you see a dermatologist for recommendations as they would know more about the type of dark spots you are concerned about.

There are many, many products on the market that claim to lighten dark spots and some of them may work but many people spend a lot of money on products like this and never achieve the results promised.
Your dermatologist may recommend an OTC (over the counter) product rather than a prescription creme but they may have a better idea as to what would/might work for you.
To be sure, most of these only help for as long as you use the product.
If you cannot see a dermatologist right now, I would recommend doing some research on line and maybe try some of the home remedies that are not expensive and some may give pretty good safe results.

I use Retin A for ACNE spots. It does work and they do not come back, but again, it is an acne spot from scratching it. It is not a bleaching cream like what you may be thinking. It removes your skin layers, which is the irritation part.

Consult a dermatologist regarding your dark spots. Please do not use someone else's rx. Best wishes.

I posted something about this a long time ago but you can use raw potato on your spots. The starch reduces pigmentation and the enzymes found in it promote healthy skin.

The brown spots could be from many conditions-allergy, stress, fungus, hormonal changes and many other medical problems. You should see your doctor quickly to address the cause and treat the condition. It will probably become worse if not treated.

Hate to say AGE spots but they Do appear on young faces too...it's actually from SUN EXPOSURE and many times, using tanning salons prematurely brings them on. The use of apple cider vinegar on a cotton ball 3 X a day really helps lighten them!

My daughtetrs Dermatologist recommends Nadinola Fade Cream. She sells an equivalent product by perscription to her patients for $80 or you can buy it at WalMart for less than $5. It takes awhile but works very well.

I have scars all over my legs and it is very embarrassing to the point where I don't show my legs at all. I have purchased all sorts of fade creams, but none have had satisfying results. I also have dark areas on my face that give my beauty the backseat. Being a light brown skinned lady with all these scars is not good. Please help.

Apply sour lemon cream on your face. Do not rinse this mask off completely; gently wipe off with a soft tissue and top it up with a moisturizer. Lemon juice is a tried and tested remedy for treating freckles. Apply lemon juice with your fingers on the affected area; lemon juice bleaches the dark spots. This should help your spots, good luck.

I quit wearing any type of skirt/dress unless it is ankle length. Several years ago I had a horrible problem with edema and the lower part of my legs swelled so much that now that part of my legs is a really dark red. I wear long pants most of the time. I learned to live with it, and anybody male or female, friends or family that truly loves you should be able to deal with your scars. My complexion isn't real good, but it has been several years since I have been able to see well enough to apply anything other than lipstick, because I need my glasses to see well enough to do anything like makeup.

Go to a dermatologist. They can take them away with lasers. It can be a couple of hundred dollars a session but well worth it.
