Frugal and Green! Purchase one of those heavy duty insulated shopping bags and keep it in your car for when you're grocery shopping. I find it especially helpful here in the South, during the summer. Now you won't have to worry about your food getting warm or defrosting on the drive home. They are very inexpensive. They fold flat and take up little storage space in your car when not in use. Yet they open to a generous sized bag. I bought mine at Sam's Club, but they are available elsewhere.

Now that we can travel a little more now, I hope this will help you stay organized on the cheap. I got a small tool box at a thrift store, and simply filled it with things I had in the house or in the car but could rarely find.
Ladies, be sure to carry a pair of boots or sneakers in your trunk in case you should breakdown. Dress shoes are not good for walking in an emergency situation. An old warm coat and gloves left in the trunk is also handy to have.
Keep an extra phone book in the trunk of your car, so that you'll have any number you need in case of emergency. Locksmith, directions to hard to find stores, anything & anyone you might need to contact from the road will be at your fingertips.
A really sturdy cardboard box kept in the trunk of your car makes a great catch-all and keeps stuff from rolling around. Make sure you choose a heavy corrugated box
When shopping, take an 18 gallon plastic box with you in your vehicle. You can place your shopping bags in it and thus avoid the bags tipping over and things falling out. By Jo Ann
I keep a spare plastic laundry basket in the trunk of my car. It's great for toting home breakables (eggs, fruit or other groceries) or yard sale finds.
In my car trunk, I leave a square laundry basket. When I grocery shop, I toss all the bags into it.
