Traveling with Allergies

September 20, 2011

Woman With AllergiesI have food allergies, so even when I am not traveling, I must be careful with what I eat. I like to take some food with me, because I may not be able to find anything I can eat in an airport or bus station.

I went on a trip for work in June. My bus left very early in the morning before I would normally eat breakfast. I had made up ham sandwiches the night before and put them in Ziploc bags. I also had a couple of those blue freezer things. I packed the sandwiches and freezer things in a pocket of my bag. I also bought a bottled water, my travel mug, some tea bags, stevia, 4 Larabars, and an apple.

For cleanup in between stops and getting rid of trash, I took along a package of hand wipes and a large Ziploc bag. When I got to my destination, I went to a nearby grocery store and bought a box of cereal, almond milk, several pieces of fresh fruit, lunchmeat, and gluten free bread. In the end, I not only ate well and avoided any allergy disasters, I also saved a lot of money by not buying very much food on the road.
