Farm machinery and other machinery used outdoors will last a great deal longer if protected from rust. To make your own rust protector, melt together 5 pounds tallow and 1 pound of turpentine. Then separately melt 18 ounces of sulphur, 5 1/3 ounces of caustic potash and 1 ounce of copper filings. Mix all the ingredients together while the tallow and turpentine is still hot and apply with a brush.
