Being 77 year old, my hair is thinning. I can't afford Joan Rivers Cosmetic Hair Color to fill in the thinning area so I tried using my dry powder eyebrow color on my scalp, just like she does on her TV ad. It did a pretty good job of coverage. My hair is light brown almost dark blond.

I think I need a perm as my hair is very thin and fine. However is perming hair bad for falling hair? Will perming hair cause further loss? I need volume at the top to conceal my scalp. Wearing a wig is uncomfortable for hot weather conditions and it looks unreal.
By Tan BH
How a wig looks will depend on the style. I never spend more than $50.00 on a wig and when I wear them I get lots of compliments from people I know thinking I have been to a beauty shop and had a complete new hair do, including color change, because my hair is dark brown and I have a couple different shades of red wigs and a couple different shades of blonde wigs. I am 74 and have very little grey in my natural color. As to an answer about perms, you will have to talk to a hair stylist that you are familiar with and that you trust.
My hair is too fine and thin. What can I do to make it thicker and strong?
By Siphosethu
There are lots of products on the market that claim to make your hair stronger and thicker. Some are shampoos, some are serums, but I guess whichever one works best for you will be the one that helps.
My hair is too thin. How do I thicken it?

Purchase from vitamin outlets such as Holland & Barrett in UK (not sure of the US equivalent): Silica, or horsetail vitamin tablets.
My daughter is 8 years old and she has very fine, thin hair. It grows slowly and breaks, it does not grow long. Please give me advice. I sometimes think maybe it might be the shampoo that's too strong for her.

Your daughter needs to be seen by a qualified and competent medical professional ASAP.
I am allergic to sodium lauryl sulfate and have to be very careful not to use any shampoo or other cleanser containing it including toothpaste. The allergy causes my hair to break BUT it also causes red itchy patches on my scalp and skin and you don't mention that as one of your daughter's symptoms.
What you do say is that her hair is very fine and breaks easily - this is a clear symptom of a medical problem (nutritional deficiency or inability to absorb vitamins/minerals, etc or environmental exposure to lead, etc is my first thought).
I also have biotin deficiency and have to take supplements - it's very possible your daughter has the same, or some other deficiency/condition - do her nails grown slowly and break easily as well? Does she have very dry skin? All signs of deficiencies BUT also many other medical conditions which no-one here is qualified to address.
It is terribly important that you don't waste time asking questions on an Internet forum but get that child to a real doctor for real help!
She needs to be seen by a doctor as soon as possible. Please update and let us know the diagnosis.
I have fine, very straight hair. I would like to know which root lift products are best for giving it more lift and volume. I do use volume shampoos and they help.

While John Frieda makes a pretty good one, I have found a few simple tricks that help.
Number 1 - Do not wash the hair with shampoo so often. Instead just use a good conditioner for the ends only, and I actually shampoo, lightly... as little as twice a week.
2 - For the roots, I like to use a little baby powder (any brand will do) at the roots.
It helps to clean the hair between shampoos and give it a little "oompf" too!
What can I use for my hair to make it thicker. I have tried everything I see that's a hair thickening product, but no results. I'm feeling so hopeless when it comes to my hair. Everything I try seems to me that I'm only wasting my money on hopeless capsules and treatments. Please help. My hair is so thin that you can even see my scalp. It's very embarrassing for me to go out when I'm looking like this. It breaks my heart. Please tell me what to mix or anything. Please, I'm very desperate. I have straight hair, but it's too thin.

I just read most of the answers that were given for fine/thin hair questions in the past. There are lots of great ideas! Here are the three things that I didn't see mentioned:
*If your scalp shows, dye your hair a color close to your scalp color. For Caucasians, a pretty light golden brown is good. Very blonde fine hair can barely be seen against the air sometimes.
*Don't feel you must always be au-naturale. Very few women are! Over half of American women dye their hair, and that's just for starters. Two women I know personally, who are considered to be extra-attractive, hardly ever appear without wigs or hairpieces. As far as I know, one of them never leaves home without fake hair.
*My hair is very fine, and I find it holds much better when I set it with old-fashioned rollers or hairpins and sleep on it then when I use electric appliances. Even though I have a perm, if my hair is blow-dried or set on electric rollers, it usually droops within a half hour. Sometimes I pin curl the hair on the top of my head and the bangs, which especially adds body.
Does the use of horse shampoo such as Equiline cause greying of hair when used on humans? If it does what causes it? Is there a specific way to use horse shampoos for the treatment of thin and falling hair as when I used it it made my hair very hard?
By Z.E from Johannesburg, SA
Why would you use a horse shampoo? Surely, with all the wonderful human hair products, you would find one that was reasonably priced and suited to your hair type. I doubt very much if you hair is the same texture as a horse's.
I agree with louel53. Don't use horse shampoo. Look at your family and friends to see who has the healthiest looking hair. Then, ask them what they use.
My question is to the person who mentioned that eating walnuts helps your hair, do you mean fresh, or packaged walnuts, does it make any difference? Thanks.

I once had thick shoulder length hair, but I have lost most of my hair and its thickness due to hair extension glue. I have been trying to grow it back, but no results. Please help.

I just saw a viewer question about shedding to much hair on Dr. Oz. He said to massage lavendar oil in to your scalp and this helps to stop the hair from falling out.
My mom's hair is really starting to fall out from chemotherapy. She doesn't want to get a wig(this climate's very hot and humid and wigs can be uncomfortable). Do those horse shampoos really make hair look thicker? They're kind of expensive and mom doesn't want to try until she knows. Or does anybody know of another solution? Any help would be appreciated.
The mane and tails shampoo does tend to make your hair thicker and softer...and smells good! :)
But losing hair is one side effect of chemo, so the shampoo wont really help.
Good luck to your mom and family. God bless
I have thin, lifeless, hair with no body. I wear it short. Does anybody have any suggestions to give body to my hair?

Try putting gel in your hair while it's still wet, then blow it dry on low heat and use a pick to lift it up while drying it. When it's almost dry, flip your head over and blow it dry still picking it with the pick. Then try spraying it with some light-weight hair spray. Good luck! I hope this works!
Also, try wearing your hair in layers. Have your stylist cut your layers with the razor.
