February 13, 2012

Pug looking guilty.I have a 2 month old puppy and he won't poop on his puppy pad. He will pee on it, but when it comes to poop he always goes on a blanket, rug, or just on the floor. How do I train him to go on his pad?

One thing I would not do is train a dog to pee on a pad train him for outside or he will continue this habit for a long time. Take him outside make sure he does his business and praise him. If your set on the pad try to catch him while he is going take him to the pad repetition is key.

I have a 6 month old Boxer who I recently adopted from a shelter. She will pee on a puppy pad, but won't potty. I take her out frequently, but she refuses to do number two. She always goes to my daughter's room and uses it. Any ideas of how to get her to use it on puppy pad?

I was wondering if you could give me some tips. I have a 8 month old pup. She is a great dog, but she hardly does number 1 when she usually makes it to her wee-wee pad, but when she does number 2 she goes wherever she is. We take her outside, but I think she is confused and thinks it's play time ;-(. Please help.

Thanks.

I have a 2 month old Maltese Terrier and it is too young to go out of the house. Currently she has a training pad where she only does pee.

When we realise that she is going to poop, we put her on the training pad and keep her there for one hour, but she still doesn't poop. As soon as we are convinced that she isn't going to poop she goes and does her business on the floor. What do I do to get her to poop on the training pad?

We adopted her at 10 weeks and she took well to pad training in her puppy gate. She was praised and treated, etc. We started leaving the gate open and she even made a point to run in there and do #2 without being guided, till one day.

Now she finds corners and other hiding spots. I don't know what to do or how to discipline? Any suggestions? Please.

My dog is 8 months old. I keep putting pee pads where my dog usually pees and poops, but she doesn't pee or poop on it. This almost every time ends in her shredding the pee pad rather than using it. How do I get her to pee and poo on it?

I find that pee pads will detour the dog from going to the toilet outside. This is only me and I am sure some people love to use pee pads but I am not one of them. I have found several things that should be able to help you out in training your dog to do his pee and poop outside and not inside on a pee pad.

First off feed your dog around the same time each night. Never leave food out if the dog has not finished eating. You give the dog 30 minutes to eat the food and if it isn't finished you pick ut up. When feeding the dog do it at the same time each day. Do not alter from this.

After eating wait 30-45 minutes then take your dog outside for a 30-45 minute walk. Make sure the dog goes to the toilet when he is out.

At night when going to bed do not leave a bowl of water for the dog to drink all night long. Instead, leave a few ice cubes in the bowl. They will slowly melt and this will be more than enough water for the dog to drink.

You need to get on a schedule with your dog. The dog needs to be walked 3-4 times a day. Walks need to be around 30-45 minutes each time you walk the dog.

From what I am hearing is that you are trying to house train your dog with a pee pad and not outside. There are many dogs who do not like this and will refuse to use it. I am not sure how large your dog is but no matter the size a dog needs exercise and taken outside for walks. it is best to get on a schedule and your dog on a schedule then there will be no need for a pee pad in your home. Your dog will go outside to pee and poop and not in your home.

My 4 year old Chi is still pooping in the house. I've tried keeping her in a gated room for over two months. Today I let her out and the first thing she does is go under the dining room table and poop. That is the only place that she has always pooped under. She will pee on her pads, but the whole time I've had her in her room for the last 2 months she has pooped in there.

I watch all the Dog Whisperer shows and have looked up everything online and thought I was doing everything right, but now today, after her first day out and seeing that she pooped the first chance she had I'm at my wit's end. She is a great companion and I love her to death as well as she does me. I just don't know what else to do. I need help.

Mattie uses her pad to pee, but refuses to use it to do do. What is the answer? She is a very excited animal and seems to do the do do bit for spite, when she doesn't get her own way. She is a miniature Schnauzer. She is 8 months old and a very lovable and good companion.

Perhaps try having a second pad for the poopy in a separate spot? My thought would be to not put it down until she has pooped once and then put that poopy on it as a hint that this is her poopy pad?

Oh and once she realizes it's for pooping be sure and keep the poop picked up because poochies don't like to step on their poop any more than humans do ;-)

This may be because dogs like to turn a lot before picking a spot. My dog did the same thing. We put down a larger area of pee pads and as she became use to it we removed them one at a time until she could hit her target. However, we still had to always keep two down at all times, because even though she is a small dog, she makes big turns before picking her spot.
