Uses for CD Jewel Cases

November 11, 2008

Craft: Organizer from CD CasesRecycle your old CD cases and make an organizer. We made a Father's Day organizer for my husband. I placed photos of the kids on each side and let them decorate their own page. We placed a poem on a blank side. You can use this organizer for many things. You can even place the cds back inside of the organizer. It would make a great Christmas gift for grandparents etc. We even made on for the teacher for Earth Day.

You need 5 empty CD cases and some hot glue. Start with one case on the bottom and glue each side one at a time. Be sure you can open the case cover as you glue it to the bottom. When you are done gluing, open each case and add decorative paper or photos etc.

I have sent this request once before. I was wondering if there is anyone that is aware of a store, organization, or recycling center that will take old CD Jewel cases. I have a ton of them from CDs and we do not use them since we have caselogic CD wallets for the car.

If anyone has any feedback on this let me know! I am at the point now where the donation could be for cash or simply for a donation.

We purchased a CD organizer that does not use the plastic jewel cases that the CD's come in. Does anyone know of any way to recycle these? Do schools or libraries need these? I hate to just throw them away if someone else could put them to use. I have 100+.

Thanks.

E(:-)Greetings: Have you considered selling them on one of those online auctions like E-bay?

Call your local library and see if they can use them. Our library lends out CDs, and I notice many of the cases are cracked and otherwise in bad shape.

Have you tried "Freecycle.org"? Someone, somewhere would be able to make good use of your CD Cases. It's a shame to throw anything out!

oh those cases are great for lots of stuff I would
use them for photos or recipes and schools can
use them for crafts. I cut some pretty flower pics
from magazines then put them in cases and put them up on blank spot of wall i like it.

I have tons of CD Jewel cases that I have no use for them as my husband and I use the CD cases in the car. I was wondering if anyone knew of a place where I can ship all of our old CD cases in exchange for cash. Kind of like recycling?

You could take them and paint a border around them. Or you could use cloth and glue it on. Then you could place a picture inside and make it into a picture frame. You could also glue jewels, rocks or anything else around the edges.

I once taught a children's art class and everyone had the best time making them. You could also make them as gifts.

I was going to say the same thing as the above answer. Even tho you can't get cash for them this way, why not take them to the local preschool or church and see if they could use them. You can also join a freecycle group in your area and list them..someone will probably take them for crafts. To join a freecycle program in your area, just go to www.freecycle.org and look up your area.
Good Luck

Make a big wall calendar. Put a large number printed from the computer into each CD case and mount on the wall. You could substitute a friend's photo for the number on their birthday.

I donated my used cd cases to the library to save them money in replacing their beat up ones. They are saving me money by not having to buy books, movies or music so I figure it was an even trade!

Display your kids' (or your) artwork on the refrigerator door! Cut up and glue pliable plastic magnets to the empty CD covers and insert the artwork inside the clear case. (Many real estate agents print calendars and business cards on these magnets and send them in the mail).

It would be difficult to get cash for the used CD cases because you can buy them brand new for pennies on the dollar. The donation ideas are great too.

You might try your local rental places, and see if they will buy them, or let you donate for the rent of a movie. If not the rental places, how about the trade in CD or DVD places, and use the same thought as for the rental stores.

Maybe decorate it like a photo frame like suggested above, only put a GIFT CERTIFICATE inside and present it as a gift.

Since the cheapest way to buy CD's for data burning purposes is to buy the "cake box" packages, I use the old music CD cases to store the discs I've burned my data to.

make em into photo frames??

trim your photo/picture to CD inlay size, slot it in the front of the case, tape a bit or ribbon to the back so you can hang it up.

They make great picture frames :)
You just open up insert a decorated border or quotes or a picture and close. add a magnet to the back and voila a frame for the front of the fridge ! Or add hook and eye closer and then you can use on office cubicle wals .. or glue a picture hanger on the back and hang on the wall.

you could also glue a few to ribbon and make a long decoration with all the families pictures in it for the wall .. very Victorian (?) with a modern twist :)

Best of luck!

My first thought too was for a photo but I thought you could use it as a card type gift, you could put a photo of the person getting the gift on the front and one of yourself on the back, you could either add paper to create a card inside or make a cd, dvd, photoslide show etc. and make it the gift......the person will feel great cuz you took the time to make them something personalized and you won't have to spend a fortune.....

I heard of a really cool way to use CD cases that would be great in a teen's room. Make a big wall calendar. Print the numbers 1 - 31 individually. Place each number in a CD case. Hang on the wall accordingly. You could put a picture of a friend in the case on the day of her birthday. Pretty clever!

They make great gifts. I made a kids book "all about me" was the title and then I hot glue the other pages and then I put a pic of the child it was for in the back.

He loved it.

I still need a lot of empty CD cases, but only the wide plastic ones. I am willing pay 5 cents for each one. Per 100 would be $5.00. I can use at least 400 to start with, and I will pay for shipping too. Any ideas where I might find some? Thanks.

Does anyone have directions to make a pencil holder using CD cases to put pictures in? I would love to have my friend's children make it for her and her husband this Christmas. Thanks!
