Varathane Finish is Still Tacky?

March 18, 2009

A wood table with a varathane finish.I used oil based stain on an area of a coffee table that I had used water based verathane on. The stain has stayed tacky, what should I do? Thank you for any help.

Eventually it will dry but may be subject to peeling. I would sand to bare wood and start over. Why did you mix water and oil finishes? You should have used either oil or water finishes.

I'm confused. Did you stain over Varathane?

I applied Varathane to a stained dresser. It has been over 72 hours and the Varathane has not dried. What do I do?

If there is a 1800 number on the can, call them for advice. No one will be able to tell you more than the people who make the product. I hope that helps.
