I needed to hang a shower curtain made from a bedspread I no longer used. I do not have a button hole option on my sewing machine nor did I want to spend money on grommets.
I had been saving pop can tabs and with a simple zigzag I was able to quickly attach all 12 tabs across the top of the fabric. Worked like a charm and no one knows they are there.

I was reading all about shower curtains on here, on how to wash them. I made one and I cut it about a foot from the top all the way across. I sewed a zipper on it and now all I have to do is unzip it and wash the bottom part. I don't need to mess with the hooks.
I have made my own custom curtains and plastic liners and I raised the spring tension rod to near ceiling height. I have used a sheet for the outer curtain and bought plastic from the fabric store for the liner.
I made one for every holiday using seasonal fabric. I hand sew mine but of course you can use a sewing machine. (This is the outside curtain NOT the actual shower curtain.)
