Craftsman LT 2000 Riding Mower Won't Start

April 14, 2020

I have a Craftsman LT2000, model 31C707 riding mower and it cranks and runs, but has but very little power. It will move forward and backward, but does not have power enough to mow the grass. Is this evidence of a burnt valve or what?

Check battery and spark plugs. You are getting some power, but it seems weak. Be sure to check filter for being clogged or dirty!

If you are lacking the power to the motor of the machine it normally indicates that your spark plugs are bad, bad battery, or even a clogged carburetor.

More than likely you have a crack in your manifold that is causing this to happen. This could be a gasket problem or a problem with one of the hoses on your lawnmower. You need to check the engine of the mower and find out where the oil is coming from. Check all your hoses and make sure they are not broken.

If you can not find any damaged hoses then check the gasket on the engine block and see if you can find oil leaking from this area. If so you will need to take it apart and replace the engine gaskets on the mower.

I have a Craftsman LT 2000 and it was running OK, but after I replaced the starter, ignition coil it wouldn't start back up so I replaced the starter solenoid also and there is still nothing. It will crank the first time and just spin, but if you try again it does nothing at all. When it cranked it did try to start, but then I heard a pop and nothing. I would be grateful for any help.

My mower has been running with no problem. I stopped to get a drink and it would not restart. It turns over fine, but just never catches. Also, I noticed that it will intermittently backfire. The spark plug is fine and it is getting gas through the filter. Any ideas?

Much appreciated.

My mower was running normally when smoke started to come out of engine. Now it won't crank over. All fluid levels are full and normal.

I have a Craftsman lt2000 mower. I jammed the deck up against a tree trunk. After backing up and engaging the mower it kills the engine.

I have got a Craftsman LT 2000. I tried to start it, but it won't even turn over. Is it a blade engagement issue?

I have a 2010 Craftsman LT2000 riding mower with a Briggs & Stratton engine. It will not start. When I turn the ignition it either clicks a bunch of times or spins once or twice, but doesn't turn over. I replaced the spark plug, adjusted the valves, got a new battery, and it still won't start.

I did notice that it is slowly leaking gas somewhere (will not hold it in the tank over night). I'm guessing my problem is either the starter solenoid, the starter motor, or a clogged carburetor. Any suggestions?

I mowed the lawn with a Craftsman Lt 2000 and hit stump. Then it stalled. It started right back up and I finished mowing and turned it off. Now it won't start.

I have turned the key and nothing happens...no sound, no movement. I replaced the solenoid, seat switch, and ignition switch. The fuse looks good. I'm stumped!

My Craftsman riding mower won't start. I have replaced fuel lines, fuel filter, air filter, coil, spark plug, and the battery but the damn thing won't start. I have cleaned everything good, I can spray carb cleaner in the neck and it will try to start, but won't.

What else can I do? I also added fresh gas and a fuel stabilizer just in case. Any suggestions will help. It is a Craftsman LT 2000 with Briggs and Stratton 18.5 HP OHV. I'm really frustrated with the whole lawn mower thing.Craftsman Riding Mower Won't Start - closeup of mower engine

I've been jumping my mower off the starter and it has started fine. But after I added gas it started, shuddered, and then died. The engine spins and acts like it wants to start, but simply has not fired since.

I am thinking bad gas? Should I drain the gas or try an additive? It only ran for maybe 3-5 seconds before cutting off.

My LT 2000 Craftsman lawn tractor won't start unless you spin it over with your hand a few turns. Then it will start, but not all the time. The starter is good. What could be problem?

I have a Lt 2000 18.5 hp Craftsman rider lawn mower that was given to me. The previous owner said it ran great and the only problem was it needed the gas lines repaired. I repaired all of the gas lines, but it will not start. I turn the key and it cranks or spins, but then stops.

If I take the sparkplug out it spins like crazy. I did it for a few minutes (figured it was flooded). I put a new spark plug in and the same thing happens. What am I missing?

There is a switch under the seat. You could try disconnecting it and reconnecting it.
